Kuina Books 水鶏書房 is an independent publisher based in Ōsaka and Münster, shaped by a deep commitment to language, design, and intercultural dialogue. We create books for people who feel most at home while moving—across borders, between cultures and languages, or within themselves. Our name comes from the Yanbaru Kuina, a flightless bird native to the Ryūkyū Islands. Its strong legs, built for steady movement rather than flight, reflect how we think about communication and identity: motion is only possible with a strong foundation. In the same way, language underpins everything we make—it’s the ground we stand on and the space we move through. Every book is the result of a careful, deliberate process. We value depth over speed and substance over spectacle. Kuina Books exists for readers who believe that stories, like people, are at their most alive when they’re in motion.

水鶏書房（くいなしょぼう）は、大阪とミュンスターを拠点とする独立出版社です。言語、デザイン、そして異文化間の対話への深い探究心によって形づくられ、私たちは「移動」のなかでこそ最も自分らしくいられる人々のための本をつくっています──国境を越えて、文化や言語のあいだを行き来して、あるいは自分自身の内側を旅している人たちのために。名前の由来は、琉球列島に生息する飛べない鳥「ヤンバルクイナ」です。飛翔ではなく着実な歩みに適応したその力強い脚は、私たちが考える「コミュニケーション」と「アイデンティティ」のあり方を象徴しています。動き続けるためには、まずしっかりとした土台が必要なのです。同じように、言語は私たちの創作のすべてを支える基盤であり、私たちが立つ大地であり、進んでいく空間でもあります。すべての本は、丁寧で意図的なプロセスから生まれます。私たちはスピードよりも深さを、派手さよりも本質を大切にしています。水鶏書房は、「物語も人と同じように、動いているときこそ最も生き生きとする」と信じる読者のために存在しています。
